What can you accomplish?Ĭontinue reading “Robottermilk Pancakes” → Posted in cnc hacks, cooking hacks Tagged cnc, hackathon, ohio state university, pancake, pancakes, reprap, robotĪnother day, another interesting YouTube channel. One night, lots of fun, lots of food, and plenty of hardware. Inspired yet? We are! If you’re anywhere near New York City you need to bring this kind of game to our Hackathon on May 2-3. The team also built an iPhone app that lets you draw your desired pattern and push it to the machine via WiFi. It wasn’t just the printer being hacked together. We are amused by the use of a Sriracha bottle as the nozzle. Get this, the pump driving the pancake batter was pulled from a Keurig and a servo motor is used to kink the tubing, halting the flow. tells us that since most 3D Printers are build on stepper motors this meant they had to scratch-build the control software but luckily were able to reuse PID software for the rest. The motors themselves are DC with encoders. ![]() The gantry runs on drawer sliders using belts from a RepRap. ,, and won the 2015 Ohio State University Makethon with the project. ![]() So you want to prepare SVG drawings so they can be drawn on a Makelangelo. With a name like that how could we possibly pass up featuring this one? Truly a hack, this pancake making robot was built in under 24 hours. This is the Compiled Makelangelo Software that can be downloaded and. Nice! Scaleable Vector Graphics (SVG) are an great way of storing images as lines because they can be made bigger or smaller without losing detail. can be imported into Inkscape for G-code Generation For Drawing Robot Like Crazy. Since the Makelangelo “thinks” in lines, they are a natural fit together. Inkscape is a free vector drawing program that loads a ton of file formats, including Adobe Illustrator. You can use it to turn a photo into line art or sketch something totally new. (Please support them to show your thanks.) Darth Vector Inkscape: Ungroup I used this picture of Darth Vader for this example. Select everything and choose Object > Ungroup. Inkscape: File > Save As > Desktop Cutting Plotter (AutoCAD DXF R14) (*.dxf) In some vector images you might have groups of groups of groups, so keep going until the Inkscape status bar says “N objects selected of type Path in root.” Fortunately this Darth Vader image is pretty simple and only needs one Ungroup command. Download the latest version of the Makelangelo software. This is another format well respected in the machining communities. ![]() The Makelangelo software is the heart of the machine. The very first Makelangelo robot was hard coded to run a few simple lines. Then it was taught to understand gcode, the language of manufacturing CNC robots like 3D printers. That was a big improvement, but someone still had to sit there and type all the gcode into the robot, one line at a time. Makelangelo software added support for DXF files in ~2014 Makelangelo: Convert > Open File It is used by everything from Automatic quilting machines to CNC lasers to robot arms. You should now see your picture on the screen. The picture will automatically fill the paper as much as it can. This function was buggy, it worked to slow and it's results are not editable. Here you may discover a catch: SVG files can be made from many overlapping shapes, with junk hidden under the top-most layers. Area inkscape is Calculate area curves now. I think this name represents the function better. It becomes much more easier to work with this function: no need to convert path to dynamic offset or do additional things. When you ungroup and save as DXF, the DXF file will have all the lines. The Makelangelo has no idea what lines are supposed to be on top, so you might need to clean up the vector file in Inkscape before you send it to the Makelangelo. ![]()
